Our story
Purposeworks was created from a simple but powerful belief: organizations with a social purpose deserve better support. Too often, non-profits, charities, associations, and community-serving organizations are asked to carry enormous responsibility with limited capacity, aging systems, and growing expectations. Purposeworks was built to meet that reality with practical help, thoughtful leadership, and a deep respect for the people doing meaningful work.
At its core, Purposeworks exists to strengthen the conditions that make impact possible. That means helping organizations improve governance, clarify direction, build stronger systems, manage change, and create sustainable ways of working. It also means showing up at critical moments with the right kind of support, whether that is strategic advice, fractional workforce resources, communications, planning, or operational problem-solving.
The story of Purposeworks is also a story about values. It is grounded in collaboration, integrity, curiosity, and service. We believe good work should be human, clear, and useful. We believe purpose should not be overwhelmed by process, and that strong organizations are built through relationships, trust, and sound decisions.
Our Vision & Mission
Our Vision
We envision a future where nonprofit and social-purpose organizations are trusted stewards of impact, designed to endure, governed with integrity, and capable of turning bold purpose into real, lasting change. Purposeworks exists to help leaders and boards build organizations that strengthen communities, contribute to healthier systems, and create value for people, place, and the public good.
Our Mission
Purposeworks helps nonprofit and social-purpose organizations advance their missions by strengthening the conditions that make impact possible. We work alongside leaders and boards to bring the right expertise and perspective at critical moments, building clarity, capacity, and resilience through sound governance, effective systems, and decisions that translate purpose into sustained benefit for communities.
Our Values
These are the principles that shape our culture, inform our decisions, and define how we show up for our clients, partners, and each other every single day.
Care for People and Purpose
We approach our work with care; for the missions organizations carry, the communities they serve, and the people doing the work. We act with empathy, respect, and a shared sense of responsibility.
Integrity, Trust, and Accountability
We believe trust is earned through honesty, consistency, and follow-through. We value clear governance, ethical decision-making, and accountability to clients, partners, funders, and the public.
Working Together, With Respect
We believe strong outcomes are built through collaboration — transparent, fair, and respectful — valuing diverse expertise, shared learning, and mutual contribution over hierarchy or control.
Thoughtful, Evidence-Informed Action
We value decisions grounded in evidence, informed by experience, and attentive to context. We support reflection, learning, and adaptation so organizations can respond effectively to complexity.
Purpose in Practice
We believe intentions matter most when translated into action. We help align values with strategy, systems, and day-to-day decisions so purpose shows up consistently in how work is designed and delivered.
Building Capacity That Lasts
We care about long-term impact. We value sustainability, resilience, and the intentional development of people and systems so organizations are stronger and better positioned for the future.
Our Commitments in Practice
These commitments translate our values into how we work every day with our employees, our clients, our partners, and the communities we serve. They reflect our responsibility not only to deliver effective results, but to do so in ways that are ethical, sustainable, and aligned with the public good.

Guiding Principles on Who We Work With
Purposeworks is intentional and discerning about the individuals we bring into our work — as employees, associates, subcontractors, or collaborators. These principles guide who we invite into our work and how we build relationships rooted in trust, professionalism, and shared responsibility.
Shared Commitment to Purpose and Public Good
We work with individuals motivated by purpose as well as professionalism. People who see their contribution as part of a broader effort to strengthen communities and systems.
Integrity and Professional Judgment
We value individuals who demonstrate honesty, discretion, and sound professional judgment, approaching sensitive governance environments with care, confidentiality, and ethical awareness.
Respect for People and Lived Experience
We seek collaborators who respect lived experience, diverse perspectives, and the dignity of the people and communities affected by our work, with cultural humility and deep listening.
Collaborative and Low-Ego Approach
We value people who share credit, welcome constructive challenge, and engage with curiosity. We intentionally avoid cultures of hierarchy, ego, or individual heroics.
Comfort with Complexity and Ambiguity
We look for individuals who are thoughtful, adaptive, and comfortable navigating ambiguity, trade-offs, evolving conditions, and able to hold nuance and support decision-making.
Commitment to Quality, Discipline, and Follow-Through
We work with individuals who take pride in their craft, meet commitments, communicate clearly, and follow through, valuing discipline, attention to detail, and a willingness to revise.
Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence
At Purposeworks, we believe technology should serve people, not replace them. Artificial intelligence can support insight, learning, and efficiency, but only when used with care, transparency, and respect for human judgment.
People at the Centre
We use AI as a tool to augment human thinking and decision-making, never as a substitute for accountability, professional judgment, sound research practices or ethical responsibility. Accountability for decisions always rests with us.
Protecting Trust
We are deliberate about privacy and confidentiality. We do not use technology in ways that compromise the confidence placed in us by clients, partners, or communities. When AI is used, it is done openly and with intention.
Aligned with Values and Public Interest
We apply AI only where its use aligns with our values and the public interest. We reject uses of technology that undermine equity, dignity, or responsible governance.
Continuous Learning and Care
As technology evolves, our commitment remains constant: to use AI in ways that strengthen judgment, support better outcomes, and contribute to healthier systems and guided by our responsibility to people, purpose, and community.
